DRUG AND ALCOHOL POLICY

Masters Marine Services is committed to a safe, healthy, and productive working environment for all employees both shore-based and onboard company vessels.

For this purpose, the Company maintains ‘Zero Tolerance’ about the use of any drugs or alcohol (unless prescribed by a medical professional), and as such any tests that come back showing any amount of drug or alcohol content are automatically considered as a failed test.

Employees of other companies, suppliers, and visitors are also required to observe the Drug and Alcohol Policy while on Company premises.

It is the Master’s responsibility to ensure the effective implementation of this policy on board.

The following instructions shall be strictly complied with by all company employees to contribute to the maintenance of a safe, healthy, and productive working environment:

  • The use or possession of alcohol is prohibited on board Company vessels and in any of the Company’s shore work sites, guesthouses, including offices.
  • Unlawful possession, consumption, distribution, or sale of drugs including but not limited to prescription drugs obtained or used without permission or such drugs not being used for their originally intended purpose at any time during their tour of duty by any Company employee warrants instant dismissal and will render the person liable for legal action.
  • Personnel on prescribed drugs must inform the Master upon joining or upon prescription during service on board, If the Master is on a prescribed drug, he will declare this to the Company before joining the vessel, or upon prescription during the period of service on board.
  • Have a responsibility to the company, their fellow employees, their subordinates, and the general public to ensure that everyone in the workplace complies with this policy.

Reasonable Cause

Testing for alcohol and specified drugs will be performed when there are reasonable grounds to believe that the conduct of an employee while on duty in a Safety Sensitive Position is indicative of the use or aftereffects of alcohol or drugs, or the misuse of medications.

The decision to test may be based upon specific observations about an employee which could include, but are not limited to Observed use of drugs or alcohol; the smell of alcohol; slurred speech patterns; tremors or unsteadiness in walking/standing; repeated errors or other unexplained changes in job performance, behaviors (e.g., absenteeism/lateness); disoriented behavior or drowsiness.

Post Incident

Testing for alcohol and specified drugs will be performed as part of an internal investigation for all employees whose acts, omissions, or decisions could have been a contributing factor in the cause of any work-related incident having actual consequences with a severity of high on Masters Marine Services Risk Assessment Matrix concerning people, property, environment, or reputation.

At the management’s discretion, as part of an internal investigation, alcohol and drug testing may be required of employees whose acts, omissions, or decisions could have been a contributing factor in the cause of any other work-related incident.

Random Testing

All employees shall be subject to random and probable cause testing and inspection by the company in our effort to enforce this policy. This responsibility will be supported by a system of random alcohol testing, whereby the respective Company Representative may carry out random tests either on specific individuals or on the full crew. Results will be formally recorded. Shore staff may be tested on a random basis by the HR Manager and site safety officer, as considered appropriate.

At no time shall any employee be allowed to perform assigned duties while under the effect of alcohol or drugs.

HEALTH, SAFETY, ENVIRONMENTAL, AND QUALITY POLICY

Masters Marine Services strongly believes that all accidents, whether leading to injuries, occupational illness, property damage, or harm to the environment, are preventable and can be avoided through dedicated and capable management.

We are committed to the health and safety of all our employees including Contractors and all persons working under Masters Marine Services control, together with the community, as well as the preservation of the environment, while carrying out our diverse marine operations.

We will make available the necessary resources and are compelled to demonstrate our commitment to the achievement of this HSEQ Policy through the realization of the following goals:

  • Prevention of any harm to people, property, and environment in all company activities.
  • compliance with all applicable legal, statutory, regulatory, and international requirements in respect of Health, Safety, Environment, Quality, and other requirements brought forward by our respective clients.
  • Achieving and maintaining compliance with the requirements of the ISM Code, ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001: 2015, and ISO 45001: 2015 Standards while promoting safe and pollution-free operating practices in all Company sites and onboard its vessels.
  • Compliance, at all times, to the documented HSEQ Management System operating procedures, through a system of internal audits, controls, and verification.
  • Implementing a systemic approach towards the organized assessment and management of all foreseeable risks to the health and safety of our employees and damage to the environment, we will set objectives & targets to reduce HSE risks in full compliance with UAE Law, international standards and best practice; and develop plans to implement these objectives.
  • Recruitment of well-qualified employees, both onshore and offshore, holding qualifications complying with the regulations and the professional development of their skills through the identification of their training needs and providing all necessary resources, incentives, etc., as required.
  • Ensuring the safe operation of our vessels through safe work practices and emergency readiness, using behavioral safety programs and regular emergency exercises.
  • Creating an atmosphere of open communication and employee participation on all HSE issues by establishing a Fair and Just safety culture, encouraging reporting (Observation Card & Incentive Program), and focusing on ways to correct mistakes and prevent recurrence.
  • Delivery of a high and constantly improving level of quality standards of services by recognizing and meeting Client’s needs, requirements, and expectations to achieve excellence.
  • Development of procedures to effectively measure, monitor, and report our HSEQ performance and take corrective action where required.
  • The Management will conduct Management Reviews of the HSEQ Policy and Performance, and ensure continual improvement by establishing new SMART goals for the Company by setting annual Key Performance Indicators while working towards reaching the highest level of quality standards of services provided to our clients.

It is the responsibility of all personnel, including contractors, to commit themselves fully to the goals of the HSEQ Policy; to follow procedures and instructions at all times, and to take the necessary actions to protect and care for themselves, their colleagues, any passengers, visitors, the Vessel, its cargo, and the environment.
